Bitcoin Revolution: 2022 Was a Defining Year, 2023 Will Be Even Bigger!

• Bitcoin had a defining year in 2022 and is at a turning point heading into 2023.
• The Global South will continue to lead Bitcoin adoption, with growth in Africa due to the necessity of Bitcoin as a cheaper and more efficient solution for sending money, making payments and preserving wealth.
• The divide between Bitcoin and the rest of the global economy will continue to grow, as Bitcoin is backed by human work and is proving its utility.

Bitcoin had a defining year in 2022, setting the stage for a bright future in 2023. Everywhere you look, Bitcoin is cutting the dead weight of speculation, with all eyes on the digital currency. As the CEO and founder of Paxful and the Built With Bitcoin Foundation, I’m excited to be part of the Bitcoin movement, and I’m prepared to help onboard the next billion Bitcoiners.

In a bear market, Africa continues to be a leader in Bitcoin adoption, with trade volume increasing despite the market conditions. This is largely due to the necessity for Bitcoin on the continent, as it offers a cheaper and more efficient solution for people to send money back home, make payments, and preserve their wealth. I recently visited the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Ghana, and our team at the Built With Bitcoin Foundation opened the Bitcoin Technology Center (BTC) in Kumasi, with the goal of educating 400 people in its first year. This is an inspiring example of how Bitcoin is making a real-world impact and how it has the potential to include billions more in the global economy.

The divide between Bitcoin and the rest of the global economy is also continuing to grow. Bitcoin is backed by human work and is proving its utility with real-world use cases. As more people and governments become aware of the benefits of Bitcoin, I’m confident that the digital currency will continue to gain traction.

Overall, 2022 has been a defining year for Bitcoin, and I’m confident that 2023 will be even bigger. I’m excited to continue to educate people and governments about the power of Bitcoin and to help onboard the next billion Bitcoiners.
